Bentley University All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) is confirmed for her fifth trip to an NCAA Division II national championship in the last 15 months.

Right-handed pitcher Rob Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City HS) and designated hitter/catcher Greg Baggett (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS), a duo who helped the Bentley University Falcons post a 28-14 record against regional competition, have been selected for the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-East Region second team.

Turning in its best round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament, the Bentley University golf team tied for 13th out of 20 teams in the 2012 NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional, which concluded Wednesday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.

Bentley University placed four players on the 2012 All-Northeast-10 Conference baseball team, with two of the honorees, pitcher Rob Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./ Garden City HS) and designated hitter Greg Baggett (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS) voted to the first team by the conference’s head coaches. Sophomore left fielder Sean Keady (Norwood/Norwood HS) and senior catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) also earned All-Conference recognition with both selected for the third team.

A three-hour weather-related suspension of play and darkness prevented 12 of the 20 teams, including Bentley University, from completing their second round, in the 2012 NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional Tuesday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.

The Bentley University men’s and women’s outdoor track teams will be at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn. Friday and Saturday for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Friday’s action gets underway at 3:30 pm, and Saturday’s first event is at 11 am. Eleven different Falcons enter the championships ranked in the top six of their respective events, with junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) at the top of the list of qualifiers. The three-time Northeast-10 champion is the top qualifier in both the 800 meters and the 1500 as she plans on competing in both on Saturday.

Coming off a win in the Northeast-10 quarterfinals last night, the conference announced Thursday that four Bentley Falcons have earned spots on the NE-10 Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference teams.
