Ten Bentley University student-athletes were named to the 2011 Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country All-Academic teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association

Already ranked 14th in preseason by the IWLCA, the Northeast-10’s women’s lacrosse coaches have picked Bentley University sixth in the preseason poll, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.

Junior forward Caleigh Crowell (Harwich, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored 18 points, junior guard Courtney Finn (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop HS) added 17 and sophomore forward Lauren Battista (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames HS) flirted with a triple-double as the Bentley University women’s basketball team reached the 20-win milestone for the 27th time in 29 years with a 69-58 Northeast-10 Conference win over St. Michael’s College Wednesday night at the Ross Sports Center.

Bentley University senior guard Sam Leclerc (Fayette, Maine/Winthrop HS) scored 23 of his game-high 28 points in the second half, but St, Michael’s College escaped with the win, 66-64, on a tip-in by senior forward Tyler Schilling (Excelsior, Minn.) with eight seconds left in Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball action at the Ross Sports Center Wednesday night.

The Bentley hockey team takes on AIC in a home-and-home Atlantic Hockey series this weekend. Friday’s game takes place at Ryan Skating Arena where the Falcons have already beaten the Yellow Jackets this season, and Saturday’s tilt is at the Olympia Ice Center in Springfield. Both games are a 7:05 p.m. start.

Bentley University freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) has been named the Women’s Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following a strong weekend of competition in the conference championships.

Bentley University senior Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) has been named the Men’s Diver of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference for the ninth time this season and the 18th time in his career after his outstanding performance in the conference championships over the weekend.

With the start of the regular season a little more than a month away, the Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll has been released, and Bentley is picked fourth, behind Adelphi, Le Moyne and Merrimack.

Reaching the 20-win barrier is a notable achievement for any college basketball team. Wednesday, at St. Michael’s College, the Bentley University women’s basketball team will be attempting to reach that plateau for the 27th time in the last 29 years!

One of the strengths of this year’s Bentley University men’s basketball team has been its ability to quickly get back on the winning track following a loss. A Falcon victory in the ensuing game has followed each of the team’s first five losses. Coach Jay Lawson’s team will again be looking to avoid dropping back-to-back games when it makes the trek to Colchester, Vt. to take on St. Michael’s College Wednesday night (7:30 pm).

The Bentley University baseball team received quality pitching Sunday afternoon, but the University of Tampa, ranked second nationally in Division II, used two late runs to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Falcons in non-conference action at the UT Baseball Field.

Sophomore Amanda Le (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) and a pair of freshmen, Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) and Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS), had the top individual performances for the Bentley University women’s swimming and diving team Saturday during the final day of competition at the Northeast-10 Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Freshman guard Roy Mabrey (Belmar, N.J.) scored 26 points, including 14 in the first 8:36, and sophomore forward Allen Harris (Roslindale) had four points and two blocks during a late 9-0 run as Saint Anselm College got by Bentley University, 81-75, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Junior center fielder Andrew Jones (Doylestown, Ohio) had two hits, a run scored and three RBI as the University of Tampa, the number two-ranked Division II team in the country preseason, posted an 8-0 win over Bentley University in non-conference college baseball Saturday night at the UT Baseball Field.

In his first race since the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships last March, Bentley University junior Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) finished fifth in the mile Saturday during the Dartmouth Indoor Classic at the Leverone Field House.

The Bentley University Falcons finished third among seven teams in the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which concluded Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University.

The Bentley University men’s basketball team will continue its bid for a seventh Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship in eight years Saturday afternoon when the Falcons host Saint Anselm College. Tip off at the Dana Center is at 3:30 pm, following the 1:30 pm women’s game.
