WINTER PARK, Fla. – Graduate left-hander Evan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic HS) turned in a one-hit shutout and watched his teammates pound out 24 hits as Bentley University erupted for an 18-0 victory over Nyack College in non-conference college baseball Monday afternoon at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium.

Walsh, who faced the minimum 27 batters, allowed one walk and struck out a dozen. The no-hit bid was lost in the fifth when junior catcher Carlos Pina (Miami, Fla.) led off with a single to left center. He was erased on one of two double plays turned in by the Falcons.

Meanwhile, the Falcon offense was clicking on all cylinders, putting up two runs in the first, five in the second, two in the fifth, eight in the sixth and one in the seventh. All ten Bentley players who went to the plate had at least one hit and seven had multiple RBI.

Leading the way were graduate catcher Nathan Littman (Abington, Mass./Abington HS) and senior second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington, Mass./BB&N) with four hits apiece at the top of the Falcon lineup. Littman scored four times and had a pair of RBI while Samko scored twice with one RBI.

Sophomores Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury HS) and Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) each had three hits and three RBI with Troiani raising his average to .444 and Berardino climbing to .389. Troiani, now riding a seven-game hitting streak, also had a pair of sacrifice flies.

Sophomore shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) homered in the second and finished two-for-five with three RBI. Senior DH Austin Farry (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) added three hits to the Falcon total, and sophomore catcher Christopher Butler (Danvers/BB&N) enjoyed a two-for-six afternoon with three runs scored and two RBI.

In addition to Hopkins' two-run blast, big hits for the Falcons included two-run triples in the sixth by both Butler and Berardino.

Nyack dropped to 4-3-1 on the season.

Bentley (2-6) will return to Alfond on Tuesday for a 3:30 pm game against Concordia College (N.Y.).
