Velasquez Named Assistant Football Coach
Rob Velasquez, a 2006 graduate of Endicott College, has been named an assistant football coach at Bentley University, head coach Thom Boerman announced. Velasquez will coach the offensive line and also serve as the Falcons’ Recruiting Coordinator.

Six Former Falcons Recognized by National Football Foundation
Six former Bentley University football players have been recognized by the National Football Foundation with selection to the 2012 Hampshire Honor Society. They are punter Mike Brownett (Branchburg, N.J./Immaculata HS), wide receiver Wade Critides (Wayland/Wayland HS), quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS), defensive end Sal Ruffino (Allentown, Pa./Central Catholic HS), H-back Will Spring (Concord/Lawrence Academy) and tight end Bart Stires (Glendale, Ariz./Brophy Prep).

Three-year starting quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS) and field hockey All-America Stephanie Sideris (Watertown/Watertown HS) have been named the Outstanding Senior Athletes at Bentley University, and hockey standout Mike Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/ Olds Grizzlys) was selected as the 2011-12 recipient of the Edward J. Powers Award as Bentley’s premier senior student-athlete.

Super Region 1 includes the Northeast-10 Conference, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The final curtain on the 2011 Bentley University football season and the collegiate playing careers of up to 18 players will come down Saturday afternoon after the Falcons take on Assumption College in the annual Senior Day game. Kickoff for Bentley’s sixth home contest of the season is set for 1 pm. Prior to the contest, 14 Bentley seniors and four grad students will be recognized for their contributions to the program over the years.

Graduate student Bryant Johnson (Hopedale, Mass./Milford HS) threw three first-half touchdown passes and senior Bobby Tarr (Byfield, Mass./Bishop Fenwick HS) ran for 101 yards as Bentley University plowed through the snow for a 28-0 win over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference football at Pace Field Saturday afternoon.

Bentley Looking for Win #5 When Falcons Visit Pace Saturday
It’s been a rough stretch for the Bentley University Falcons over the past three games. Losses to 5-2 Merrimack College, 6-2 Southern Connecticut State and most recently, nationally-ranked and once-beaten University of New Haven, all by a total of 11 points, have made their goals of a Northeast-10 Conference championship and an NCAA playoff berth become unattainable in 2011. However, with two games left, Thom Boerman’s team can still achieve a six-win season with a strong finish. Still left on the slate are a trip to Pleasantville, N.Y. for an encounter with Pace University this Saturday (1 pm) and the season-ender at home against Assumption Nov. 5.

Graduate student Bryant Johnson (Hopedale, Mass./Milford HS) turned in a brilliant performance, but his career-best 435 yards of total offense and four touchdowns weren’t quite enough as the Bentley University Falcons dropped a 45-38 decision to nationally-ranked University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday afternoon at DellaCamera Stadium.

In the two meetings between Bentley University and the University of New Haven since the latter rekindled its football program before the 2009 season, the road team has prevailed each time.The Bentley Falcons will be looking to continue that trend and cool off the 16th-ranked team in Division II when they make the trip to West Haven, Conn. to take on the Chargers Saturday afternoon. In a battle to stay unbeaten in the Northeast-10 Conference, Merrimack College scored 15 unanswered points in the second half to overcome a 16-point first-half deficit and best Bentley University, 33-29, Saturday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field. The comeback featured an 83-yard pass reception by junior Isaiah Voegeli (Hyannis) for the first points yielded by the Falcon defense in the fourth quarter all season.
