Bentley Gridders Slotted at No. 3 in NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University Falcons are listed at number three in the Northeast-10 Conference Football Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced by the conference Wednesday.

The Falcons, 6-4 a year ago, collected 63 points to finish behind defending champion Assumption College and LIU Post in the voting. Assumption, which received six of the ten first place votes, edged the Pioneers by a single point, 77-76.

Rounding out the voting were New Haven (57), Southern Connecticut State (44), Merrimack (40), Stonehill (36), Pace (24), American International (20) and Saint Anselm (13).

Coach Bill Kavanaugh's club will open the season Thursday, Aug. 30 with the team's only non-conference game of the season, a home tilt against West Chester University. The Golden Rams were selected as the preseason favorites in the Eastern Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference after a 9-4 record that included an appearance in the 2017 NCAA Division II playoffs.

Bentley will open its Northeast-10 schedule a week later at Southern Connecticut State, and will also face Merrimack (homecoming on Sept. 15) and visit both LIU Post and New Haven before a bye week to begin October.

The second half of the schedule includes Pace (H), Stonehill (H), Saint Anselm (A), Assumption (H) and AIC (A).

The top three in the poll mirrors last season's final standings when Assumption, LIU Post and Bentley finished 1-2-3.
