WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Bentley University Falcons will be the number one seed and the host team for the 2011 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East Regional, which will be played at Bentley's Dana Athletic Center Saturday through Tuesday, March 12-15.
This marks the fourth time in seven years, the first since 2008, that Bentley will have the honor of hosting the eight-team event, and the Dana Center will also be the site of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Regional this weekend, which will run Friday through Tuesday.
The automatic qualifiers for this weekend will be sixth-seeded Adelphi University (20-10) of the Northeast, seventh-seeded Bloomfield College (21-8) of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and eighth-seeded C.W. Post (21-9) of the East Coast Conference.
Selected on an at-large basis were Bentley (22-7), second-seeded American International (20-8), third-seeded Stonehill College (21-7), fourth-seeded UMass-Lowell (20-9) and fifth-seeded College of Saint Rose (21-8). All are out of the NE-10.
In Friday's first round, the afternoon contests will have Stonehill squaring off against Adelphi at noon and American International taking on Bloomfield at 2:30 pm. Bentley will meet C.W. Post at 6 pm in the first game of the evening session, and the nightcap will pit UMass-Lowell against Saint Rose at 8:30 pm.
It'll be the seventh straight appearance for Bentley, which captured the Northeast-10 regular season title for the sixth time in seven seasons. The Falcons are one of just five teams in the country that has competed in each NCAA tournament since 2005, a distinction it shares with Alderson-Broaddus, Minnesota State-Mankato, Seattle Pacific and Winona State.
The winner of the Regional will advance to the Elite Eight in Springfield Mar. 23-26.
