EAST LONGMEADOW - A point guard at heart, Yusuf Abdul-Ali is now the mind behind the East Longmeadow High School boys basketball program.

The 27-year-old Springfield native has been hired as varsity coach of the Division I program, replacing Tony Bergeron.

"I am very excited, I love being part of a team and this is going to be a great challenge," Abdul-Ali said of his first high school head coaching job.

"They have some older players back from last year (6-14 record), and I can't wait to learn their personalities."
