WALTHAM, Mass. – The honors continue for recent Bentley University graduate Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) as he was named the 2017-18 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Golfer of the Year by the conference on Tuesday.
Meyers was also voted to the All-Northeast-10 first team while teammates Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) were selected for the All-NE10 second team.
Previous honors for Meyers included the Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award as Bentley's top senior scholar-athlete, Google Cloud Academic All-District 1 and first-team Golf Coaches Association of America All-East Region.
Meyers finished his final collegiate season with a team-leading 74.0 stroke average, which lowered his career norm to 76.05, second best in program history. He also ranked number two all-time by a Bentley player in birdies with in 177.
Owner of the fourth best stroke average in the East this season, Meyers captured two tournaments during the season, the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championships (Division II) and the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational.
Ethier had an outstanding freshman season, one that saw him earn first-team All-East honors and post the fifth-best stroke average by an East Region player (74.1). He was the runner-up in the Coaches Invitational Classic (75-74-76-225) and had three other top five finishes.
Simione turned in a 75.5 stroke average during his junior season, sixth best in the NE10 and 16th best in the East. It was an improvement of 2.55 per round over last season and featured a tie for second in the NE10 Championships.
Bentley captured the Northeast-10 Championship for the second time in four years and competed in the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional for the eighth straight year.
