Gensler Named to 2012-13 New England Division I All-Star Team
Bentley University junior forward Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) has been named to the 2012-13 New England Division I All-Star team, the New England Hockey Writers Association announced Tuesday. Voting is comprised of Division I head coaches and members of the media in the New England area.

Bentley University freshman forward Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo Clippers) was named the 2012-13 Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year Thursday night at the league’s annual awards banquet in Rochester, N.Y.

Canisius College’s Cody Freeman scored both of his team’s goals, and junior goalie Tony Capobianco made 35 saves as the Golden Griffins eliminated Bentley University from the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Saturday night with a 2-1 victory in game two to sweep the first round series.

Falcons Head to Buffalo to Face Canisius in Atlantic Hockey First Round
The Atlantic Hockey Tournament gets underway this weekend with four first round, best-of-three series. The 10th-seeded Bentley University Falcons will take on the 7th-seeded Canisius College Golden Griffins in Buffalo, N.Y., beginning on Friday night with game one. Game two is Saturday night and game three, if necessary, is Sunday night. Each game begins at 7:05 pm.

AIC Upends Bentley in OT 4-3 on Peake’s Last Second Goal
AIC junior Blake Peake scored an empty-net, shorthanded goal with 1.3 seconds left in overtime to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-3 victory over Bentley University in the regular season finale. As a result, the Falcons will go on the road to Canisius next weekend for the first round of the Atlantic Hockey playoffs.

The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston announced Monday that Bentley University junior Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) is one of 16 semifinalists for the 2013 Walter Brown Award, given to the best American-born player in New England.

Bentley Swept by No. 17 Niagara After 6-4 Defeat
Bentley University came away empty handed from its series with No. 17 Niagara University, as the Falcons suffered a 6-4 defeat Saturday night and were swept by the first-place Purple Eagles. It’s the first time all season Bentley has been swept.

No. 17 Niagara University scored goals in the second and third periods to hold off Bentley University for a 2-1 win in the opener of an Atlantic Hockey series Friday night at Dwyer Arena. Senior Brett Hartung (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) scored the only goal for the Falcons, and goaltender Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) made 37 saves.

Coming off a 1-1 opening week that saw a 7-1 defeat of Sacred Heart and a 6-3 loss to Michigan, Bentley has a split weekend with two non-conference games before jumping back into Atlantic Hockey action next weekend. Friday night the Falcons host independent Alabama-Huntsville at Ryan Arena. Saturday night is a game many have had circled on their calendars for a while, as Bentley takes on Harvard in the first ever meeting between the two programs. Faceoff is set for 7:05 from the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass. The Crimson comes into the game ranked 17th in this week’s USCHO poll.

Bentley University scored four power play goals and three shorthanded goals as the Falcon hockey team got its 2012-13 season off to a roaring start with a 7-1 victory over Sacred Heart Tuesday night in Atlantic Hockey action at Ryan Skating Arena.

Bentley Opens Season vs. Sacred Heart at Home Tuesday Night
Bentley drops the puck on its 2012-13 season Tuesday night against the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. The Falcons, along with Holy Cross, are the last two teams in Atlantic Hockey to get their seasons started. Bentley and Sacred Heart, rivals in the conference’s Eastern pod, became quite familiar with each other last season. They played three times in the regular season with Bentley going 2-0-1, and played a three-game first round playoff series last March that the Falcons won 2-1. They then went on to push RIT to three games in the quarterfinals but came up short in the decisive game. Sacred Heart got its season started on Friday against Providence and suffered an 8-2 loss.

Preece Signs with Professional Team in Poland
