WALTHAM, Mass. – Head hockey coach Ryan Soderquist has announced Bentley University's schedule for the 2012-13 season, which is highlighted by another trip to Michigan and the program's first-ever meeting with Harvard. The slate features 33 games in all, 15 at home and 18 on the road, with six non-conference and 27 Atlantic Hockey contests.
The Falcons, who finished just three points out of first-place in Atlantic Hockey last season and pushed RIT to three games in the AHA quarterfinals, open on Oct. 13 at UMass-Lowell, the first of two Hockey East teams they'll face. Just three days later they play their home and Atlantic Hockey opener against Sacred Heart on Oct. 16, a rematch of last year's first round playoff series that Bentley won two-games-to-one.
On Friday, Oct. 19, the Falcons will square off with Michigan again in Ann Arbor for the second straight season. This coming after Bentley opened the 2010-11 season with a pair of closely contested games against the Wolverines.
The following weekend Bentley welcomes in Alabama-Huntsville to Ryan Skating Arena, followed by a visit to the Bright Center in Cambridge to face Harvard one night later. The two institutions have not played before, and it'll be the second Beanpot school Bentley has taken the ice against.
The other two non-conference games on the schedule see Bentley facing-off against another Ivy League and ECAC school in Dartmouth on Dec. 1 at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H. The Falcons and Big Green have played once before, during the 2007-08 season.
The Falcons will face the other Hockey East team on their schedule, Northeastern, at Matthews Arena in Boston on Jan. 5. The teams played three straight years from 2008-10, with Bentley winning in 2010, but didn't play last season.
Some of the Atlantic Hockey series of note have Bentley playing its first conference road games at Robert Morris the weekend of Nov. 2, followed by a game at rival Holy Cross Nov. 9. Mercyhurst visits Ryan Arena for a two-game series beginning the day after Thanksgiving on Nov. 23, and Air Force comes to town for a two-game set the weekend of Dec. 7.
In the second half of the season, the Falcons head back to Rochester for a rematch with RIT the weekend of Jan. 11. Other notable series in the second half are a home-and-home with Holy Cross the weekend of Jan. 25, a series at Niagara one week later and a home-and-home with AIC to close out the regular season the weekend of March 1.
