WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University hockey team has placed 13 student-athletes on the 2011-12 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team, the league announced on Monday. The 13 Falcons to receive the honor include five seniors, one junior, three sophomores and four freshmen.
Three players, recent graduates Aaron Stonacek (Basehor, Kan./Fairbanks Ice Dogs), Mike Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Olds Grizzlys) and Tyler Quartuccio (Aurora, Colo./Culver Military Academy), earned their fourth straight All-Academic honor, while classmate Trent Bonnett (Butler, Pa./Mahoning Valley Phantoms) made his third appearance on the team.
Herbie Kent (Amesbury, Mass./The Governor's Academy), Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon), Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) and Jared Rickord (Skokie, Ill./Springfield Jr. Blues) were named All-Academic for the second time in their careers.
Justin Breton (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins), Blake Dougherty (East Amherst, N.Y./Bay State Breakers), Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors), Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) and Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) garnered their first All-Academic selection.
To qualify for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for the 2011-12 season and a 3.0 GPA in both semesters in which he played this past hockey season.
