Waltham, Mass. – Juniors Mark Galione (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Philips Exeter) had big offensive games to lead the Bentley men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 victory over Southern New Hampshire at home on Tuesday night.
Galione had a career-high five points on four goals (also a career-high) and one assist, and Brooks set a career-high with five points as well, on three goals and two assists.
Bentley led from start to finish, as a goal by senior Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) 2:21 into the game sent them on their way. Galione then scored three straight goals in a span of just over three minutes. Two of the goals came just 45 seconds apart, at 9:49 and followed by a man-up goal at 9:04. His third straight goal came at the 6:39 mark, and he wasn't done as he then assisted on a goal by Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) at 5:45 to give Bentley a 5-0 lead.
Senior Scott Carvalho (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) had Bentley's only goal of the 2nd quarter as they led 6-2 at halftime.
Bentley continued to pile on in the 3rd quarter as they outscored the Penmen 4-1. Brooks, Kris Campbell (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), Galione and Hurley found the back of the net as the Falcons led 10-3 after three quarters.
Brooks scored twice in the 4th quarter, including a man-up goal 41 seconds into the quarter.
Sophomore Connor Baughan (Foxborough, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey) had a game-high seven ground balls, while Nick Colstad (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor's Academy) and Matt Mulcahy (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) each led the team with two caused turnovers.
Junior goalie Mike Haggan (Braintree, Mass./BC High) made 12 saves to earn the win.
The Falcons improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 NE10 with the victory. They'll go for a 3rd straight win on Saturday when they host Saint Michael's at 3:30 pm.
