WALTHAM, Mass. – On a night that the Bentley University seniors were being recognized, Falcon freshmen won nine of 14 individual events to power the men's swimming team to a 145-128 victory over Bridgewater State Tuesday at the Dana Center pool.
Bentley had the number one finisher in all 16 events as it snapped a three-meet slide and finished its dual schedule at 7-3.
Leading the way were freshmen Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS), Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) and Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS), with each winning twice. In addition, Bury was part of the Falcons' all-freshman 200 yard free relay team that prevailed in 1:33.95.
Bury turned in Bentley's fastest times of the year while winning both the 50 backstroke (26.25 seconds) and the 100 individual medley (58.18). Karl spent a total of 16 minutes in the pool as he captured both the 1000 free (10:49.80) and the 500 free (5:11.05), and Bridge swept the diving with a season-best 268.87 off the one-meter board and 248.02 on the three-meter.
The other freshmen who won events were Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) in the 100 butterfly (56.44), Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) in the 50 free (23.53) and Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) in the 100 back (56.93).
The only senior to earn a win was Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS), with a 1:51.53 in the 200 free.
Also turning in winning efforts for the Falcons were sophomore Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) in the 50 breast (29.11), junior Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) in the 100 free, sophomore Janco Cornelius (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS) in the 100 breast (1:06.15) and junior Peter Belanger (Andover/Andover HS) in the 50 fly (25.20).
Bentley will be back in action next weekend, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, when the Northeast-10 Championships are held at Southern Connecticut State.
