NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Northeast-10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships got underway Thursday night at Southern Connecticut State University's Hutchinson Natatorium with the Bentley University Falcons earning gold in the women's 4x800 free relay and setting a pair of school records.

In the women's 4x800, sophomores Brooke Jameson (Bedford, Mass./Bedford HS) and Kate Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./Dedham HS) combined with junior Emily  Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./ Francis T. Maloney HS) and senior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Reg. HS) to successfully defend the title they won a year ago. They dominated the race, winning by 8.34 seconds over Southern Connecticut.

The quartet broke both the school and meet record for the second straight year with their winning time of 7:36.31 an NCAA B cut time and an improvement of 3.71 seconds over last year's showing.

Bentley took second in the men's 4x800 with freshman Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./ University HS), junior Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy), senior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) and sophomore Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic JS) combining for a school record 6:52.86. That improved on the previous standard of 6:53.59, set last year, by nearly three-quarters of a second.

Thursday's action also saw the Falcon men take fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:35.93) and the women's team finish sixth in the 200 medley (1:51.66).

Participating for the men were Yoshihara, McGeary, sophomore Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./ Bergen County Academies) and senior Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS). For the women, it was sophomore Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS), freshman Ari Revelas (Snyder, N.Y./Nardin Academy), senior Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) and sophomore Hannah Rauch (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park HS).

One-meter diving was also contested Thursday night but as of 11 am Friday, those results were still not available.  In addition, team scores were not yet available.

The championships will continue through Sunday evening.
