WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University seniors Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) and Juan Quiroga (Bogota, Colombia), along with freshman Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS), were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference for their performance in the Falcons' final dual meet of the season.
Niemiec was named the NE10's Women's Swimmer of the Week for the first time, Quiroga was recognized as the NE10 Men's Diver of the Week for the third time and Homorodean was tabbed the NE10 Men's Rookie of the Week for the second time.
Niemiec won two individual events against Bridgewater State and was also part of two winning relays, the 200 yard free (1:45.26) and the 200 medley (1:54.85). She was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.65) and also took first in the 100 individual medley (1:03.20).
Quiroga took first place in the one-meter diving (223.10) and was second off the three-meter board (184.00).
In the men's 176-120 win, Homorodean turned in winning swims in the 100 free (48.89) and the 100 butterfly (54.39), and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.19). He also swam a leg on the Falcons' 200 medley relay team that was second (1:40.53).
Two other Falcons, junior Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) and sophomore Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield HS), were also recognized with inclusion on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.
Elenio was a double-winner as the Falcons completed a second straight undefeated dual schedule. He captured the 1650 free in 17:41.14 and the 200 butterfly in 2:00.04. He was also part of a 200 free relay that finished third (1:36.97).
Logozzo swept the diving events for the fifth time this season, turning in winning scores of 227.77 from the one-meter board and 225.67 off the three-meters.
Next week, Bentley will compete in the four-day Northeast-10 Championships at WPI, beginning on Thursday.
