The 2011-12 tennis season will be Alex Wong’s ninth as Bentley University’s women’s tennis coach and seventh as the men's tennis coach.

Wong has led the men’s team to three straight NCAA Tournament berths and five overall (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011). He's also led them to back-to-back Northeast-10 championships and the 2010 regular season crown where they ran through the conference slate undefeated. The Falcons are 21-1 over the last two years in the NE-10.

The women have been to the NCAA Tournament twice (2007, 2009), and the NE-10 finals once (2009) under his guidance.

In 2009-10, Wong led the men’s team to arguably its finest campaign ever. The Falcons won the NE-10 regular season title for the first time since 1995 with a perfect 11-0 record in conference play. They won three more matches in the NE-10 Tournament for its first conference championship since 1996, and earned its first NCAA Tournament win ever with a victory over Stonehill.

For his efforts, he was named both the 2010 NE-10 Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year and ITA Men’s East Region Coach of the Year.

In his six years leading the men's team, Wong has a record of 77-56 overall and 53-11 in the NE-10. On the women’s side, his teams have posted a 75-22 mark in conference play and are 89-75 overall since he began his collegiate coaching career in 2003. He has taken both teams to the NCAA Tournament in the same season twice, in 2007 and 2009.

Wong's players have not only been successful on the court, but off it as well. Three players have won the ITA's Division II National Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship; Kelly Nugent (2008), Lorenzo Cava (2010) and Cheryl Martin (2011).

Wong, a native of Newton, came to Bentley in August 2003 following his graduation from Wesleyan University, where he spent four years as the #1 singles player for the Cardinals. He was ranked in the top 15 in the East Region his final three seasons, climbing as high as eighth in the east and #32 nationally in 2002. He was also named All-NESCAC in 2002.

In his college years, Wong was a tennis professional at several clubs in the area, most recently at the Wellesley Country Club. Recently, Wong has served as a pro at New England Team Tennis in Concord, the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, and at the Belmont Country Club.

During the summer months, Wong works for the Woodland Golf Club in Auburndale, Mass. Previously, he served as the Director of Tennis at the Sudbury River Tennis Club in Framingham, Mass. during the summer. He has coached and taught kids of all ages and abilities as well as adults and also trained junior competitors for regional and national events.
