WALTHAM, Mass. – After a career effort during Sunday's Last Chance Meet at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, Bentley University freshman Eric Beckwith (North Attleboro/ North Attleboro HS) has been named the Men's Field Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Already number two on Bentley's all-time list, Beckwith threw the shot 47'0.75", breaking his previous best by 5.5 inches and placing fifth of seven. A club athlete and three Division I competitors finished in front of him. That throw tied the football offensive lineman for seventh on the East Region performance list this winter.
The NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll included a pair of Falcons, sophomore Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) and grad student Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./ Lewis S. Mills HS).
Uthman-Olukokun was 10th of 29 in the 200 and 17th of 29 in the 60 during the New England Championships. He improved on his PR in the 200 by 0.31 seconds with a 22.04 in the 200, missing the school record by just .01, and he missing advancing in the 60 by just .003 seconds after finishing in 7.14.
Varsell earned All-New England honors for the seventh and final time in her illustrious career by placing fourth in the mile, behind three Division I runners, with a time of 4:54.94 at the New England Championships.
