Wicked Local Waltham: 'Falcons win back-to-back East Regional women’s basketball titles'

WALTHAM — More than a half hour after the game, Bentley University sophomore Lauren Battista was still true to the word she gave herself and promised for her teammates.

The NCAA Division II East Region Most Outstanding Player sat in the interview room following Monday night's 84-73 victory against Holy Family with her coach and four other teammates with a small strand of twine in her left hand throughout the 15-minute press conference. She twisted it around her fingers between questions, tied it in tiny knots as she listened to answers, and untied it again she prepared to give her take on the team's second straight trip to the Elite Eight.

The Northeast-10 Conference Most Valuable Player and East Region Player of the Year was the leading scorer and most versatile player all season on a team that seemed like it would never be willing to accept anything less than cutting down another souvenir off the Dana Center rims.
