WALTHAM, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bentley University freshman forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) has been selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Spalding Rookie of the Week.
Gemma earned her latest award after producing 13.5 points and five rebounds a game off the bench while shooting 64 percent overall and making all eight of her free throws. She had 16 points and eight rebounds against Franklin Pierce and scored 11 in the NE-10 championship quarters vs. Saint Anselm as the nation's top-ranked and only undefeated Division II ran its record to 27-0.
Gemma, who was previously, recognized December2 and 23, averages 10.2 points and 6.6 rebounds while playing 18.2 minutes a game off the bench. She shoots 48 percent overall and 77 percent from the line, and is Bentley's top offensive rebounder with 65.
Last week, Gemma was voted to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie team.
The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included senior All-America and NE-10 Player of the Year Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) and All-Conference grad student Courtney Finn (Winthrop/Winthrop HS).
Battista averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, five assists and a steal while shooting .545 from the field and .857 from the line. She scored 18 points as the Falcons achieved regular season perfection with a 100-57 win over Franklin Pierce and opened the NE-10 championships with 13 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two assists and a block against Le Moyne in a 77-51 victory. During the two games, she had just one turnover in 60 minutes of action.
Finn shot 69 percent and averaged 14 points and six rebounds in the two wins. Included was 22 points (6-8 overall, 3-3 3's, 7-8 free throws) in 26 minutes against the Ravens last Tuesday.
Bentley returns to action Thursday when the three-time defending champion Falcons host Assumption College in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championships.
