Bentley Receives Record 33rd NCAA Tournament Invite, Will Face USciences Friday

WALTHAM, Mass. – Hours after falling in the Northeast-10 Conference championship game at Adelphi University, the Bentley University women's basketball team learned Sunday night they would be making another trip to Garden City, N.Y., this time for the NCAA Division II East Regional.

The Falcons received the number three seed and will face sixth-seeded USciences in a match-up of 26-5 teams on Friday.  It's Bentley's 33rd trip to the NCAA tournament, the most of any Division II teams in the nation. Coach Barbara Stevens' program reached the national semifinals a year ago and were the 2014 NCAA Division II national championships.

Automatic berths went to Adelphi, Molloy College (East Coast) and USciences (Central Atlantic) while Bentley received one of five at-large  bids with the others going to Caldwell College (25-5), NYIT (18-11), Assumption College (19-8) and Queens College (24-4).

The other three quarterfinal match-ups on Friday are all rematches from earlier this season. Top-seeded Adelphi (26-4) will take on NYIT after falling to the Bears in their season-opener, number two Queens will look avenge an earlier loss to Assumption, and fourth-seeded Caldwell will look to do the same against Molloy (22-8).

The regional semifinals will be Saturday evening and the regional championship game will follow on Monday, March. 13.

The Elite Eight will be held in Columbus, Ohio Mar. 21-24.
