Edwards Named Northeast-10 Women’s Rookie of the Week After Outstanding Weekend
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) has been named the Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following a strong weekend of competition in the conference championships.
Edwards captured gold in the 500 yard freestyle, finished third in the 1650 free, was fourth in the 200 free, and was part of relay teams that finished second (200 medley and 400 free), third (800 free) and 11th (400 medley).
Edwards, the NE-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time, broke her own school record in the 500 twice. Her prelim time of 5:08.95 shaved more than nine seconds off the record that she set last month, and she bettered that by 1.63 seconds in the finals with a time of 5:07.32.
Edwards also bettered a 10-year old record record in the 1650, posting a 17:47.03. That was an NCAA "B" cut performance as was her 500 time.
Her efforts helped Bentley place second in the championships, behind nine-time titlist Southern Connecticut.
Edwards and her teammates will return to action Feb. 17-19 when the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships are held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt.
