    Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) and Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS), both rising seniors at Bentley University, have been selected for 2012 Division II Track and Field All-Academic honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

    Bentley University’s Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), a Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America and a four-time Division II All-America, has been selected for the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for women’s outdoor track.
  • Varsell & Drago Selected for Capital One NCAA Div. II Academic All-America® Honors

    – Four-time All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), a rising senior at Bentley University, has been named to the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Women’s Track and Cross Country first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which was announced Wednesday. Her classmate, John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), also earned Academic All-America recognition with selection to the men’s track and cross country third team.
  • Three Juniors Earn Capital One Academic All-District Honors

    A trio of Bentley University juniors have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 1 track and cross country teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). They are John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS).

  • Varsell Earns 4th All-America Award with 5th-Place Finish in NCAAs

    For the fourth time in her career, Bentley University junior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has earned Division II All-America honors. The latest came Saturday night when the Falcon athletic and academic standout finished fifth in the 800 meters at the 2012 NCAA Division II Women’s Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Mills HS), Bentley University’s three-time All-America, won her heat in the preliminaries of the 800 meters Friday night in the NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRosa Thunderbowl, on the campus of Colorado Sate-Pueblo.

    The only member of Bentley’s women’s team to compete during Friday's portion of the New England Championships was senior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS). In her final race as a collegiate, she was 15th of 24 in the 5,000, with a time of 18:34.79.

    After winning the 800 meters in the previous three Northeast-10 Conference Championships (2011 indoors and outdoors, 2012 indoors), Bentley junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) took it a step further Saturday, running to victory twice during the 2012 NE-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Connecticut State University. And in the process, she broke the meet record in both the 800 and 1500 meters.

  • Northeast-10 Track Championships on Tap with Varsell & Maguire Topping Bentley’s Entrants

    The Bentley University men’s and women’s outdoor track teams will be at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn. Friday and Saturday for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Friday’s action gets underway at 3:30 pm, and Saturday’s first event is at 11 am. Eleven different Falcons enter the championships ranked in the top six of their respective events, with junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) at the top of the list of qualifiers. The three-time Northeast-10 champion is the top qualifier in both the 800 meters and the 1500 as she plans on competing in both on Saturday.

    When Suzy Walsh broke the Bentley University record in the 1500 meters in 1993, it lasted for 19 years, until Falcon junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) bettered it April 20 during the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University. The new standard didn’t last close to19 years as Varsell broke it herself on Sunday during the Brown Springtime Open.

    Normally, Bentley University junior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) competes in the 1500 meters and her All-America classmate Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) runs the 800. They switched events Saturday during the opening meet of the outdoor season, the Northeastern Spring Open, and both experienced success on the Solomon Track.
