WALTHAM, Mass. – After posting the best performance ever by a Bentley University woman at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) has been named the Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference for the fourth time.
Dooley was fourth among freshmen and 49th overall at the nationals, covering the snow-covered 6,000-meter Plantes Ferry course in 22:36.2. Competing in just her fourth career cross country race, she missed earning All-America honors by only 15 seconds.
The championships, held Saturday in Spokane, Wash., concluded an outstanding inaugural cross country season for Dooley, who had never competed in the sport before arriving at Bentley in September. Her season included finishing 28th overall and first among Division II runners in the New Englands, placing second in the Northeast-10 Championships and posting another second in the NCAA Division II East Regional, where she helped Bentley qualify as a team for the nationals for the first time.
Dooley will now start preparing for her first indoor track season, which gets underway in December.
