WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Kenady Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) deflected a shot into the cage with about 100 seconds to play to give Franklin Pierce University a season-opening 1-0 win over Bentley University in non-conference field hockey action at Bentley Thursday night.

After more than 68 scoreless minutes, senior Andrea Fahey (Hudson) fired a shot towards the goal from about 12 yards out. Kelly redirected the ball into the cage to account for the game's only goal.

Bentley controlled play in the first half, holding a 10-3 edge in shots, but the Ravens controlled play after intermission. In the second half, the Ravens outshot the home team 11-5 and had a 5-2 edge in penalty corners.

Junior Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) made nine saves for Franklin Pierce while Bentley received two stops in the first half from senior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) and four in the second from sophomore Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS).

Overall for the game, Bentley had one more shot, 15-14, and the Ravens had two more corners, 7-5.

Bentley will return to action Saturday with a 5 pm home game against LIU Post.
