RINDGE, N.H. – Franklin Pierce scored three times in the first half on its way to a 4-1 home win over the Bentley men's soccer team in Northeast-10 action Tuesday night.
The Ravens led 2-0 after just five minutes, as they scored twice within a span of 44 seconds. Junior Lorris Cortijo scored the match's first goal at the 4:01 mark, with graduate student Quincy Appah on the assist. That was the first of three straight goals Appah would have a hand in.
Appah scored the next goal just 44 seconds later to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage, finishing off a cross from the left wing by midfielder David Magee. Appah then scored again in the 18th minute.
The Falcons got one back in the 30th minute. After Bentley was awarded a penalty kick, junior Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) was chosen to take it. The kick was saved by Pierce goalie Jordan LeGuyader, but sophomore Brett Ripperger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) pounced on the rebound for his first goal of the season, and to cut the deficit to 3-1.
However, Bentley was unable to score again, and a 51st minute goal by Pierce junior Marius Preber restored their three goal advantage.
