Waltham, Mass. – Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro), Alec Foster (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Adam Watkins (Clover, S.C./Clover) will serve as captains of the Bentley men's soccer team for the 2019 season.
Stewart and Foster are both seniors, while Watkins is a junior.
"I am excited for our newly elected captains, they are all excellent student-athletes who work very hard both on the playing field and in the classroom," Crompton said. "To be elected by teammates is a tribute to their influence in our program and demonstrates the respect that each has earned amongst their peers and the coaching staff. I look forward to working with each of them to help get us back in the playoffs this fall."
Stewart will be going into his third season at Bentley after transferring from UMass-Lowell. He's led the team in goals in each of his first two seasons, including a nine goal tally in 2017 that saw him earn 2nd team All-NE10 honors. That season he also had two goals and one assist during Bentley's run to the NE10 finals, and was named to the All-Championship team as well.
Foster has played in 33 matches with 17 starts in his Bentley career. He scored two goals in 2018, and scored a big goal in the team's run to the 2017 finals when he netted the go-ahead goal in the regular season finale against Le Moyne, which clinched a playoff spot.
Watkins, a center back, has started every match Bentley has played in his first two seasons. He started all 19 matches and led the team in minutes played as a freshman, and capped it off by being named to the NE10 All-Rookie team. In 2018, he again started every match and led the squad in minutes played.
The Falcons were voted 9th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' poll with 54 points. The defending champions Adelphi were voted first, followed by Southern N.H., Le Moyne, Franklin Pierce and Southern Connecticut.
Bentley is set to open its season on Sept. 11 with a non-conference match at Stonehill. In fact, the team's first three matches are on the road, followed by trips to Holy Family on the 14th and Post on the 18th. The home and NE10 opener is against Saint Anselm on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1:00 pm.
