Bentley Softball Drops a Pair on Sunday

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Sunday wasn't a great day for the Bentley University softball team, with the Falcons losing twice at the National Training Center. The Falcons fell to Molloy College, 10-0, in a game stopped after five innings and were edged by Seton Hill University, 4-2.

Molloy sophomore lefthander Megan Butterworth (Bellmore, N.Y.)  was virtually unhittable as she yielded only one single and one walk while striking out 11 of the 18 batters she faced.  The lone Falcon hit came in the third when sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) singled through the right side.

Molloy put runs on the board in every inning with one in the second, three in the fifth and two in the other three innings. The Lions' offensive attack was powered by sophomore Jenna Frey (Island Park, N.Y.) with four hits, two runs scored and two RBI.

Senior second baseman Alexandra Sydor also had a productive day with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored.

Bentley struck first against Seton Hill, but couldn't hold on for the victory as the Griffins rallied for three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.

In the top of the first, junior left fielder Meghan Carter (Hudson, Mass./Hudson HS) singled to left, took second on the throw and scored on a single to center by junior catcher Megan Blier (Wells, Maine/Wells HS).

An inning later, freshman Kelly Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved up another base on the throw and came in for the Falcons' second run on a single to right by freshman first baseman Samantha Tierney (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum HS).

A two-run single by Lisa Kaczynski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) plated both the tying and go-ahead runs, propelling Seton Hill (4-6) to the win.

The two losses dropped the Falcons to 1-2 on the season.
