CLERMONT, Fla. -- Junior center fielder Meghan Carter (Hudson, Mass./Hudson HS) drove in two runs in each game and junior Tara Fogarty (Chester, N.Y./John S. Burke HS) continued her strong pitching as Bentley University recorded non-conference softball victories over New York Tech, 8-0, and St. Michael's, 5-1, Friday at the National Training Center. The New York Tech game was stopped after six innings.

The sweep completed a 7-3 Florida trip for the Falcons, Bentley's best start since the 1977 team won eight of its first ten.

Fogarty pitched her fifth shutout of the year against New York Tech, tying the school single season record before the team has even started its conference schedule. She struck out eight against the Lady Bears while tossing a three-hitter, and came back with a four-hitter against St. Michael's. She also had eight K's in that one. She'll return north with a 7-2 record.

Bentley jumped on New York Tech for two runs in the first, tacked on one in the third and broke it open with five in the sixth. Carter and Fogarty both had RBI singles in the first inning to stake the Falcons to the lead.

Sophomore second baseman Erica Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker HS) led the Falcons with three hits, and both Fogarty and sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) had two hits and two runs.

Carter's third-inning RBI single broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning of game two, and Bentley added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Carter singled in Thibodeau to make it 3-1, and junior catcher Megan Blier (Wells,Maine/Wells HS) followed with a two-run homer.

Bentley is scheduled to host Post University Wednesday afternoon.
