CLERMONT, Fla. – Molloy College senior lefty  Megan Butterworth (North Bellmore, N.Y.) and freshman righty Samantha Sauer (Plainview, N.Y.) combined on a one-hitter and Mercy College junior Mary Sieber (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) followed with a two-hitter as the Bentley University softball team was shut out twice Monday at the National Training Center.

Molloy, ranked 20th nationally in Division II, ran its record to 10-3 with a 4-0 win over the Falcons, and Mercy rode a pair of unearned runs in the first inning to a 2-0 victory.

Butterworth struck out 11 and faced just one batter over the minimum before giving way to Sauer for the seventh inning.

Her teammates gave her the only run she would need in the third when junior right fielder Lauren Alexander (Huntington, N.Y.) reached on an error, advanced to third on a pair of hits and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman designated player Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.). The Lions picked up insurance with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Molloy finished with 10 hits, including two triples and a single from junior shortstop Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Against Mercy, freshman Taylor Concklin (Montgomery, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the first by reaching on an error. It proved costly as a two-run, two-out double by senior designated player Kimberly Crnkovich (La Selva Beach, Calif.) later in the inning plated the only two runs of the game.

Sieber, who allowed only one runner to reach second, walked one and struck out six. She closed the game by retiring the final ten batters she faced.

Spoiled was a strong pitching effort by Bentley senior Carly Taitz (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport- Blue Point HS). After pitching a scoreless inning of relief against Molloy, she went the distance against Mercy and allowed only three hits.

Senior second baseman Laura McDonough (Braintree/Braintree HS) had two of Bentley's three hits on the day, a first-inning double against Molloy and a fourth-inning single against Mercy.

Bentley plays only once on Tuesday, a 3 pm meeting with Saint Leo (Fla.).
