WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption College jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and went on to record a 5-2 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball Thursday afternoon at  Marois Field.

Five different players drove in runs for the Hounds (16-11, 7-7 NE-10 Northeast), who are tenth in this week's NCAA Division II East Region rankings.

Junior shortstop Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven) led off the bottom of the first with a double, took second on a fly ball out and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of senior first baseman Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I.).

Assumption extended its lead with three runs in the second after another lead-off double. Senior catcher Andrea Crowley (Norfolk) delivered a sacrifice fly, sophomore left fielder Cassidy Colby (Charlton) tripled in a run and Colby scored an unearned run on a two-out error.

It was a 5-0 game before Bentley got on the board with two runs in the sixth. Following a single by freshman second baseman Catie Noons (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) and a walk to junior shortstop Alex Borrelli (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic HS), junior first baseman Morgan Mazone (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem Central HS) singled down the left field line to drive in Noons.  A two-out error on the next play allowed Borrelli to score the Falcons' second run.

Bentley (5-13, 2-7 NE-10) outhit the Greyhounds 7-6 with Mazone the only Falcon with two. Sophomore second baseman Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H.) had two for the Hounds.

Assumption freshman righty Kendal Roy (Grafton) went the distance in the center circle, striking out two en route to her eighth win of the campaign. Bentley received 4 1/3 innings of quality relief from junior lefty Kelly Ferris (Seymour, Conn./Seymour HS). She scattered three hits and allowed only one run while striking out two.

Bentley will remain on the road Friday when it begins a three-game series at Franklin Pierce University with a 4 pm game.
