With all five players improving on their opening round score by at least four strokes, the Bentley University Falcons moved up seven places in the team standings Tuesday and will enter Wednesday’s final round tied for 12th place in the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Golf Regional at the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center.

Senior co-captain and Capital One Academic All-America Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) was the top golfer for the Bentley University Falcons during the first day of the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Monday at the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center Jones Court.

Following an impressive spring season that has included a pair of tournament championships, the Bentley University golf team will be at the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling, W.V. Monday through Wednesday for the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional.

Bentley University junior Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) has been named the Golfer of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference, and freshman teammate Jack Zierolf (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde HS) was selected as the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

The field for the 2013 NCAA Division II Regional Golf Tournaments was announced Friday afternoon with Bentley University earning a third consecutive berth. The Falcons, who have won two tournaments this month, received the number eight seed in the East Regional as an at-large selection.

Powers Award as Bentley’s premier senior student-athlete

Led by senior captain and 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS), the Bentley University golf team captured the 13-team Peter King Memorial, which concluded Saturday at Long Island National Golf Club.

The Bentley University golf team had a strong first day Friday during the Peter King Memorial Tournament at Long Island National and will enter Saturday’s final round tied for second place in a field of 13.

Led by senior Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers HS), the Bentley University golf team finished second of nine teams in the 36-hole Cape Cod Classic that it hosted Saturday at the Bay Pointe Club.

Bentley University freshman Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/ Lincoln Academy) has been named the Men’s Golf Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following his strong play at this past weekend’s Bayside Resort Invitational.

In the opening tournament of the spring season, Bentley University finished in the middle of the pack of the 13-team Bayside Resort Invitational, tying with UMass-Lowell for sixth place. The Falcons opened with a first-day 315 and slipped to a 329 during Sunday’s second round for a total of 644.

Senior co-captains Dan McQueen (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS) and Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers HS) were the top performers for the Bentley University Falcons Sunday during the storm-shortened New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships at the Captains Course. Monday’s scheduled second round was cancelled due to the approaching storm.
