The Bentley University men’s cross country team is in Joplin, Mo. for Saturday morning’s NCAA Division II Championships, as is Falcon sophomore Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) of the women’s team. The championships, which are being hosted by Missouri Southern State University, will be streamed live at www.NCAA.com. The men’s race will get underway at 10:30 CT (11:30 ET), and the women will follow at 11:30 CT (12:30 ET).

Bentley University sophomore Tara Dooley (Lee, Mass./Lee HS) will be making her second trip to the NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Championships in as many years after a second consecutive second-place finish in the NCAA East Regional, held Sunday afternoon at Mine Falls Park.

For the second straight year, Bentley University sophomore Tara Dooley (Lee, Mass./Lee HS) took second place in the Northeast-10 Conference women’s cross country championships, which were contested Saturday morning at Jamesville Beach Park.

Hopes are high that the Bentley University Falcons will turn in a strong performance Saturday when the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are held in Jamesville, N.Y. at Jamesville Beach Park. The women’s is slated for a 10 am start and the men’s race will follow at 11 am.

Following a conference-best sixth-place finish in the New England Championships on Sunday, Bentley University sophomore Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) has been named the Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference. It’s the second time this season and the third time in her career that she’s been so honored.

A year ago, Bentley University’s Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) caught everyone by surprise when she placed 28th in the New England Women’s Cross Country Championships in what was not only her collegiate debut, but also her first-ever cross country race. Now recognized as one of the region’s best, the sophomore improved on that performance by 22 places Sunday in this year’s championship, finishing sixth overall at Stanley Park with a 5,000-meter time of 17:37.92.

It’s the second time in her career she’s received the honor.

Bentley University women’s cross country co-captain Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/ Coyle-Cassidy HS) launched her senior year with a strong performance in the UMass-Dartmouth Shriners’ Invitational Saturday.

Freshman Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield HS) was the number one Bentley University women’s cross country runner to the finish line during Saturday’s Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College. She covered the 5,000-meter course in 21:28.7 to place 20th in her collegiate debut.

Seniors Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) have been named captains of the 2012 Bentley University women’s cross country team, head coach Kevin Curtin announced.

Coming off the most successful season in the program’s history, the Bentley University women’s cross country team is ranked second preseason in both the Northeast-10 Conference coaches’ poll and in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II East Region rankings.

– Four-time All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), a rising senior at Bentley University, has been named to the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Women’s Track and Cross Country first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which was announced Wednesday. Her classmate, John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), also earned Academic All-America recognition with selection to the men’s track and cross country third team.

A trio of Bentley University juniors have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 1 track and cross country teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). They are John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS).

After posting the best performance ever by a Bentley University woman at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) has been named the Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference for the fourth time.
