Amy Farnum of NCAA.com recently spoke with Bentley women's cross country runner Tara Dooley about her impressive freshman season after she had never participated in the sport before. This weekend, Dooley and her teammates are in Spokane, Wash. for the NCAA Division II Championships.

The Bentley University women’s cross country team will take a number 25 national ranking when it travels across country to Spokane, Wash. for this Saturday’s NCAA Division II Championships. It will be the Falcons’ first-ever appearance as a team in the championships.

Following her outstanding performance in Sunday’s NCAA Division II East Regional, Bentley University freshman Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) has been named the Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference. It’s the third time this season she’s received the honor.

With freshman Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) and junior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS) leading the way, the Bentley University women’s cross country team earned a first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Championships by virtue of finishing second among 27 teams at the NCAA Division II East Regional Sunday afternoon at Franklin Park.

The Bentley University men’s and women’s cross country teams will have their sights set on earning a trip to Spokane, Wash. and the NCAA Division II Championships when they run Sunday afternoon at Boston’s Franklin Park in the NCAA Division II East Regional. The women’s race is set for 1:30 pm and the men will follow at 2:30 pm.

Sophomore Leah Schiller (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) was the top finisher for the Bentley University women’s cross country team Saturday morning at the Saint Anselm College-hosted Shacklette Invitational.

Senior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam/Amsterdam HS) has been selected as captain of the 2011 Bentley University women’s cross country team and a pair of juniors, John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Rob Dextradeur (Branford, Conn./Branford HS), will serve that role for the men’s team, head coach Kevin Curtin announced.
