WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University handed the Bentley University women's tennis team its first loss of the season in a battle of Waltham school Monday afternoon in non-conference play at the Gosman Athletic Center.
Brandeis, ranked 30th in Division III, didn't drop a set in the match. Senior Rachel Rosman and sophomore Faith Broderick led the way for the Judges, winning their top-flight doubles match and the top-two singles matches.
Rosman and Broderick topped sophomores Paulina Sotomayor (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan) and Rachel Litton (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) in doubles, 8-2. Rosman got the better of Sotomayor in number one singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Broderick bested junior Kara Murphy (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) in number two singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Brandeis improves to 5-2, while the Falcons drop to 5-1.
Bentley is back in action March 13 at Eckerd in St. Petersburg, Fla., when they begin its spring break trip.
