OVERVIEW
The Bentley Black Student-Athlete Coalition was created as a platform to elevate Black voices within the Bentley athletics community. Through our efforts, we have the potential to improve the experience of Black athletes on and off the field. The Bentley Black Student-Athlete Coalition will be an organization dedicated to enhancing the collegiate experience of both incoming and returning Black student-athletes through the creation of a welcoming family environment. This will be a place where Black culture can be appreciated and celebrated. We as athletes, but more specifically as Black athletes, wield significant influence in our community. Therefore, we have a duty and an unprecedented opportunity to bring awareness to and make a difference within the Black community.
MISSION & PURPOSE
The mission of BBSAC is to promote the support, recognition, and engagement of Black student-athletes at Bentley University with the intention of creating a strong voice on campus and to make an impact on the decisions regarding student-athletes. Through enriching experiences such as general meetings, programming, leadership and mentoring programs and community service, we seek to educate ourselves and the larger Bentley University community, in hopes that awareness will spark action and ignite change in our communities.
The purpose of the bylaws is to provide general guidelines about BBSAC policies and procedures. The policies of BBSAC are established by the BBSAC team and approved by the Advisor. The BBSA team consists of the executive board and its respective committees.
BBSAC will provide every team member with a copy of the bylaws during orientation. The highest standards of personal and professional ethics and behavior are expected of the BBSAC Executive Board. Further, BBSAC expects each executive officer to display good judgment, diplomacy, and courtesy in their professional relationships with members of BBSAC committees, membership, staff, and the general public.
LEGACY
BBSAC works to leave a legacy and pass down the torch to future generations of Bentley Black student-athletes to create a positive experience on campus in a predominantly white institution. This legacy transcends the athletic experience to highlight Black individuals who are more than their sport, while growing relationships and communities beyond athletics.
