ITA Women's East Regional Recap; Harbert, Murphy and Litton Perform Well

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's tennis team got its season under way at the ITA East Regionals in Philadelphia over the weekend, with play finishing Monday. Senior Brittany Harbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) and the doubles team of senior Kara Murphy (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) and junior Rachael Litton (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) were the team's top performers.

Harbert advanced to the quarterfinals of the B singles tournament, winning matches over Erin Lawney of C.W. Post in the first round, Marian Rosado of Georgian Court in the second round and Danielle Knott of Chestnut Hill in the round of 16. Her run though was ended by Anastasia Melnikova of Goldey-Beacom, the eventual winner, in the quarters by a score of 8-1.

Litton advanced to the round of 16 in the B singles tournament, but combined with Murphy to make it to the semifinals of the B doubles competition.

The team won two early round matches to advance to the quarters, where they defeated Jennifer Denyes and Meryl Lawrence of Stonehill 8-6, before falling to Phoebe Chiem and Andrea Salvetova of Queens (N.Y.) in the semis 8-1.

With the tournament now in the books, the Falcons turn their attention to the Northeast-10 opener, which is Thursday afternoon at Assumption.
