Stonehill Tops Bentley Women's Tennis 8-1

EASTON, Mass. – Stonehill, ranked No. 9 in the East Region, used a sweep of doubles and wins in five of six singles matches to take an 8-1 victory over the Bentley women's tennis team in a Northeast-10 match Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) picked up Bentley's point, coming in the No. 6 singles match. She defeated Olivia Schneider 8-4.

Sophomores Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) and Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) each pushed the first set of their respective singles matches to a tiebreak. But Gianino was beaten by Meryl Lawrence in the No. 2 match, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. Hetyei was defeated by Kaitlyn Martin in the No. 4 match, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

The Falcons drop their first NE-10 match of the season, bringing their conference record to 5-1 and 6-5 overall. Stonehill wins its fifth in a row and improves to 13-2 overall and 7-0 in the NE-10.
