Strong Showing in Singles Powers Bentley Past Assumption 6-3

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bentley women's tennis team won five of six singles matches on its way to defeating Northeast-10 rival Assumption 6-3 on Wednesday.  Sophomores Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) and Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) both won two matches.

Bentley won the No. 1-No. 5 singles matches and Yamus and Gianino took the No. 1 doubles match. That was an 8-6 victory for them over Hannah Riley and Meg Hall.

In singles, Yamus defeated Riley in the No. 1 match 6-4, 6-1, and Gianino bested Paige Gilet 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 match. Freshman Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) was a 7-5, 6-2 winner in the No. 3 match, and junior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) won the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-0. Freshman Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) won the No. 5 match over Hall without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0.

The Falcons improve to 7-4 in NE-10 play with one match left in the regular season. That comes on Friday afternoon when they host Adelphi for a 3:00 pm start.
