Bentley Wins Three in Singles, but Drops Finale to Simmons

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley women's tennis team closed out its season on Saturday against the Simmons Sharks, and despite winning three singles matches, Simmons' doubles play saw them to a 6-3 victory on Saturday.

Simmons took the early advantage with a sweep of doubles, but Bentley responded with a split in singles action.

Junior Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) won the No. 1 match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Theresa Reinhard. Sophomore Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) took the No. 3 match over Rachael Downey. Petrini took the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4), but Downey won the second 6-3. But Petrini emerged victorious after winning the third set tiebreaker 10-1. Freshman Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline Academy) was a winner in the No. 5 match in three sets over Katie Crowley. Kamphaus won the first set 6-2, dropped the second 4-6, but cruised in the third set tiebreaker 10-4.
