Matuty Wins Twice, But Bentley Drops Florida Trip Opener to Bloomsburg, 5-2

Orlando, Fla. – Freshman Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) won both of her matches, but Bentley suffered a 5-2 setback to Bloomsburg in the first match of its Florida swing at the USTA National Campus on Tuesday.

Matuty first combined with sophomore Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) for a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles, over Bloomsburg's team of Taylor Capoferri and Giovanna Bonito. The Huskies though claimed wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches to claim the doubles point.

In singles, Matuty claimed her second win of the day by defeating Vitoria Nery 7-5, 7-6 in No. 3. Senior captain Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) earned Bentley's other point, with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Capoferri in the No. 1 match.

The Falcons continue their Florida trip tomorrow when they take on Saint Thomas Aquinas at 11:30 am.
