Worcester, Mass. – No. 6 seed Bentley fell to the No. 3 seed Assumption 4-0 in the first round of the Northeast 10 Women's Tennis Championship on Wednesday afternoon.
Assumption claimed the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead in the match. They won the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. The Greyhounds teams of Laurence Bosmans and Caroline Mader defeated Bentley's team of
Catalina Borrero and
Maria Mella in No. 1, and Ine Bechle and Madison Ericson defeated
Martina Belvedere and
Julie Madden in No. 3.
In singles play, Assumption took the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 matches.
In No. 1, Mader defeated Borrero. Ericson topped
Isabella Kaldy in No. 4 and Bechle defeated
Julie Madden in No. 5.
Bentley's
Maria Mella won the first set over Marie Knispel in the No. 2 match by a 6-4 score. Knispel took the second set and Mella was ahead 2-0 in the third set, but the match did not finish.
In No. 3,
Sonali Parasu won the first set over Carolina deSouza 6-4. The second set was tied 5-5 but did not finish.
