MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sophie Jorjorian tossed her first career complete-game shutout, and
Michelle Diaz launched her first career home run as the Bentley softball team split a doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom Monday. The games were played at the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Space Coast Complex.

Sophie Jorjorian twirled seven shutout innings to earn her first collegiate win as the Falcons beat the Lightning, 4-0, in the first game Monday. The freshman allowed only six hits and a walk. Jorjorian retired in order the final seven batters that she faced.
The Falcons scored their first run in the second inning.
Emma Callahan led off with a double, and
Hailey Feiler followed by drawing a walk. Both runners advanced when
Becca Harris laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Callahan came in to score on a sac fly by
Katie Welch.
Getting the leadoff batter on base proved to be fruitful once again in the third inning.
Ella Bunovsky drew a leadoff walk, and she moved up a base on a single by
Michelle Diaz. Bunovsky easily scored when
Maddie Baker clubbed a double to center field.
In the fourth inning, Harris and
Jess Morrison both hit singles, and Harris came in to score Bentley's third run on an error.
Diaz and Baker led off the fifth inning with consecutive singles. They both moved up a base on a wild pitch, and Callahan delivered an RBI single for a 4-0 Bentley lead.
Diaz, Baker, and Callahan each finished the game with two hits. Bunovsky reached base three times with a hit and two walks.

Bentley 11, Goldey-Beacom 12
Michelle Diaz belted her first career home in the seventh inning, but Bentley came up short in a slugfest against the Lightning, 12-11, for Monday's second game. Diaz's homer was a solo shot to leadoff the seventh inning, but the Falcons ended up just one run short of extending the game.
Bentley found itself in a 9-0 hole after two innings, but it began to dig its way out by plating four runs in the third stanza. Diaz drew a leadoff walk, and she moved to third on a double hit by
Maddie Baker. Two batters later,
Katie Welch brought home Diaz in with a double of her own.
A single by
Becca Harris allowed Baker to score as Welch moved up to third base.
Hailey Feiler grounded out, but putting the ball in play allowed Welch to safely reach home. Harris came in to score the Falcons' fourth run on an error by the Lightning.
Emma Callahan hit a two-run double the following inning, which cut Bentley's deficit to 9-6. The Falcons continued to hold the Lightning from doing further damage on the scoreboard, and Bunovsky scored on an error in the fifth inning to bring Bentley to within two runs, 9-7.
The Bentley bats stayed hot in the sixth inning, allowing the Falcons to a take a 10-9 lead. Bunovsky stepped to the plate with the bases loaded, and she came through in a big way by scoring all three runners with a double to center field.
However, the Lightning struck back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Diaz and Welch both collected three hits in the game, and Diaz scored three times.
Bentley has a day off Tuesday, but the Falcons return to action in Florida Wednesday, March 11, with a doubleheader against Felician.
