Patrick Scholten

Professor Scholten has been a faculty member in Bentley University's Economics Department since 2003. His academic focuses include industrial organization, game theory, statistics, and econometrics. His research empirically tests firms’ strategic behaviors and the efficiency of markets. He is in the process of authoring a manuscript on using Python for econometrics.

Scholten has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from Business Statistics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Game Theory, Econometrics, Principles of Microeconomics, among others. He is passionate about teaching and helping students understand complex economic issues using both a theoretical and applied lenses. 

Scholten has a special interest in helping student-athletes, and the challenges they face in balancing a rigorous academic experience with being an athlete. He gained first-person insight into some of these challenges watching his son, Jacob, grow and mature over four years at Bentley as a member of the Men's Lacrosse team. 

Scholten earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Indiana University and a B.S. in at Michigan State University.Â
