RINDGE, N.H. – The Bentley University women's tennis
team continued its perfect start to the 2010 season with a 9-0
victory over Franklin Pierce on Tuesday afternoon.
In doubles, Bentley's top pairing of junior Kara
Murphy (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) and senior Aimee
Tetu (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) defeated Kaitlin
Krolikowski and Natasha McCarthy 8-4. The number two pairing of
sophomores Paulina Sotomayor (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald
Reagan) and Katie Van Gilst (Harwinton,
Conn./Lewis S.Mills) topped Lauren Smilovich and Drew
Alexander 8-1, and the third pairing of senior Cheryl
Martin (Pittsfield, Mass./St. Joseph Central) and junior
Brittany Harbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) beat
Suzana Deronjic and Mariama Bonetti 8-2.
The singles matches were much of the same, as Murphy, Martin and
Harbert all won in straight sets to improve to 4-0 in singles play.
Sotomayor defeated Krolikowski 6-3, 6-4 in the top-flight to
improve to 2-1, and victories by Van Gilst and Tetu upped their
respective records to 3-0 and 2-0 in singles.
The Falcons are now 4-0 both overall and in league play, while
Franklin Pierce fall to 0-6 in both.
Bentley will host New Haven on Thursday to close out its fall
season.
