Trueb Places 2nd in Mile at Harvard Open

BOSTON, Mass. -- Bentley University sophomore Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) ran to a second-place finish in the mile during the Harvard University Open Saturday at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center.

One of 110 runners to participate in the event, Trueb crossed the finish line in 4:17.26, a new personal best and only five-hundredths of a second back of winner Darcy Wilson of Harvard. It also elevated him to tenth on the program's all-time list in the event. Bentley junior Bryan Sutherland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Chaminade HS) followed in fourth with his 4:22.69 also a personal best.

In the shot, Bentley senior captain Steven Long (Newton/Newton North HS) had a throw of 45 feet, 4.25 inches, good for fifth out of 45 participants.

Freshman Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) also had a strong showing for the Falcons. Competing in the 200 meters, he won his heat and placed 13th of 150 in 22.89 seconds, the time ranking ninth in Bentley history. Of the 12 runners with a better time, only one was a freshman.

Also placing in the top third in their respective events were sophomores Rob Hennessy (North Andover/North Andover HS), John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Teddy Farley (Acton/Acton-Boxborough Reg. HS), and junior Jim O'Connor (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane HS).

Drago and Farley were 13th and 18th, respectively, in a field of 76 in the 3000 meters. Drago won his heat in 8:56.15, and Farley finished in 9:07.73. Hennessy won his heat in the 800 and was 19th of 74 overall in 2:04.74. O'Connor qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.83 seconds and finished 15th of 51 overall with a finals clocking of 8.90.

In the 500, sophomore Bryan Carton (Norwell/Norwell HS) was 14th of 35, with a time of 1:08.30. Both Kennedy and Carton were also members of Bentley's 4x400 yard relay team, which was 11th of 22 in 3:32.10.

Bentley has more than a month off before its next meet, the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational which will be held at Harvard Jan. 23.
