WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Bentley University men's and women's indoor track teams will compete in the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Championships tonight at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Action is set to get underway at 4 pm.
Bentley athletes have a top-six seed time in eight events, with that list headed by sophomore Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y.). He is number one on the seed list in the mile, with his time of 4:08.12 ranking fifth best nationally in Division II and six seconds better than anyone else in the field. Trueb, who has set a school record in his last three races, will be looking to become the first Bentley man to win gold at the NE-10 Indoor Championships since Stephan Ramirez and Anthony Vitale did so in 2006.
Sophomore Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), who finished second in the 500 a year ago, has the second best seed time in the 800 meters, 2:16.82. Also number two is sophomore John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 3,000 (15:10.43).
Sophomore Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and freshman Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) are third on the entry list in the 1,000 and 3,000, respectively. Junior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS), the 2009 NE-10 indoor champ in the 5,000, follows Nichols on the seed list in the 3K.
Also fourth is freshman Brittany Pandolph (Tewksbury/Tewksbury HS) in the shot put. Junior Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) is sixth on the 400 list, as is sophomore Craig Robinson (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) in the 3,000.
Last year, both Bentley teams placed seventh in the conference championships.
