Uthman Takes 2nd in 100 at Northeast-10 Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) earned second-team All-Conference honors by finishing second in the 100 meters during the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which concluded Saturday at American International College.

Uthman-Olukokun's runner-up performance in the 100 was the Falcons' highest finish in the two-day meet. His New England-qualifying time of 10.91 seconds trailed New Haven's David Thomas by 0.26 seconds and tied him with teammate Eric Kennedy for second on Bentley's all-time list.

Uthman-Olukokun was also part of Bentley's 4x100 relay team which finished fifth in 42.93 seconds. Joining him were sophomore Steven Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HD) and senior captains Bryan Carton (Norwell/Norwell HS) and Derek Sit (Wellesley/Wellesley HS).

Seniors John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Craig Robinson (Scarborough, Maine/ Scarborough HS) each registered fifth-place finishes, in the 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase respectively. Drago ran the 5K in 15:01.12 while Robinson qualified for the New Englands in the steeple with a 9:39.88.

Maffiolini, Carton and sophomore John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) also scored for Bentley on Saturday, all with eighth-place finishes. Carton posted a 49.61 clocking in the 400 to move to ninth on the program's all-time list, and Maffiolini edged out teammate Connor Hichens (Sharon/ Sharon HS) for eighth in the 400 hurdles. Maffiolini crossed the line in 1:00.48 and Hichens followed in 1:00.76, a new PR.

Chiulli shattered his own personal best in the shot put by about six feet, with his throw of 45'10.5" the fourth best in program history.

As a team, Bentley amassed 34 points to finish eighth amongst 11 teams. Southern Connecticut State claimed the team championship for the 11th straight year (228 points)), with UMass-Lowell (167) and Stonehill (114) following the Owls.
