Bentley Spreads the Offense Around in 12-6 Win over Saint Rose

Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y. – Eleven different players accounted for Bentley's 12 goals as the men's lacrosse team won its fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Rose 12-6 in a Northeast-10 matchup.

Sophomore attack Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) was the only player for Bentley with two goals. They led 9-3 at halftime with nine different players finding the back of the net.

The win improves Bentley's record to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in NE-10 play ahead of next Wednesday night's showdown at home against Merrimack. The Warriors will enter that game at 5-1 in the NE-10 as well after defeating So. New Hampshire 15-6 on Saturday.

Saint Rose actually led 2-1 after the first quarter. Bentley's Mike Carter (Walpole, Mass./Thayer Academy) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal. But the Golden Knights received goals from senior Rich Bamberger at 9:50 and a man-up goal from junior Colin Sorber at 3:24 to lead heading into the second quarter.

But the second frame was when the Falcons did their damage. They scored seven unanswered and ended the quarter outscoring the Golden Knigths 8-1 to lead 9-3 at the break. The big sequence was Bentley scoring four goals in just over three minutes.

Following a goal by long-stick midfielder Tim Cobb (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy), junior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) had the opening goal of the sequence at the 7:01 mark. 50 seconds later it was senior Steve Caditz (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) scoring, followed by goals from Mike Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and freshman David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford), a man-up goal, to give the Falcons an 8-2 lead with 3:50 left in the half.

Saint Rose's Kevin Fleming found the back of the net to make it 8-3 with 1:30 left in the half, but at the 1:12 mark they were called for two penalties on the same play. Bentley took advantage as Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) had a man-up goal 10 seconds later.

The teams each scored once in a low-scoring third quarter. Brigham had the goal for Bentley from Dimond, as they took a 10-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Freshman John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and sophomore Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) had goals for Bentley in the fourth quarter.

Senior goalie Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) was called on to make nine saves to earn his fifth win of the season.
