WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley volleyball team had its winning streak snapped at 12 matches when the Falcons lost to Adelphi, 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21), at home Saturday afternoon.
In a quick turnaround following a Friday night win at Saint Anselm, Bentley attacked at just a .072 clip against the Panthers.
Elizabeth Blinn totaled nine blocks, and
Sophia Poehlein matched that number in kills.
Tory Vitko came up one dig shy of a double-double, finishing the match with 19 assists and nine digs.
As often happens this fall, Blinn provided an offensive spark for the Falcons. After losing the first set, Bentley and Adelphi were knotted up, 8-8, in the second set. From there, Blinn put away a kill on a set by
Natalie Thom – providing the first point of a 9-0 Bentley run. The run included an ace by Vitko, and a kill by Blinn pushed the lead to 17-8. The Falcons won the frame, 25-22.
Bentley's positive momentum carried over into the early part of the third set when the Falcons had a 4-0 lead. However, a 6-0 run by the Panthers allowed them to take a 12-6 advantage, and they maintained that momentum for the rest of the match.
Bentley aims to begin a new winnings streak at Southern Connecticut, Oct. 18.
