Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Falcons total 12 aces to beat Texas-Tyler in four sets

DALLAS – The Bentley volleyball team notched its first win of the season with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-19) triumph over Texas-Tyler during the final day of the Dallas Baptist Tournament Saturday.

After losing the first set, the Falcons refocused and ran away with the following three frames. Bentley opened the second set with an 8-3 lead. Freshman Sophie Poehlein has three kills during that stretch. The Patriots came back to tie the set, 16-16, but then they committed consecutive errors to put Bentley back in front.

The set was tied once more, 20-20, but again the Falcons benefited from Patriot errors to take a 23-20 edge. A kill by Caitlin Wunder made it a 24-22 advantage, and the Patriots committed a service error to end the set.

Bentley led for the entirety of the third set, running out to a 5-0 lead. Elizabeth Blinn served up a couple of aces during that run, and Tory Vitko put away three kills. Bentley's lead grew to as large as 19-10 following a kill by Poehlein.

The fourth set was more closely contested in the early going, as the teams were knotted up, 4-4. From there, the Falcons went on an 8-1 run and never looked back.

Poehlein finished with a match-high 11 kills, and Wunder came away with 10. Lauren Hallas had a match-high 16 assists, while Vitko added 15.

The Falcons totaled 12 service aces, including four by Poehlein, and three by both Vitko and Blinn.

Bentley makes its 2024 home debut during the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament, Sept. 13-14. The Falcons take on American International for the first match of the weekend.
