No. 3 Bentley Extends Win Streak to 23, Ties School Record for Regular Season Wins

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) scored 19 points and sophomore guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS) drained five of her team's 13 three-pointers as Bentley University, the third-ranked team in Division II, closed out the regular season with an 87-54 win over Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball on Barbara Stevens Court.

The Northeast-10 regular season champions stretched their winning streak to 23 games and improved to 27-1 overall, including 19-1 conference. The 27 wins tied the Bentley regular season record, set in 1990-91 and matched in both 1998-99 and 2000-01.

After falling behind by eight early, coach C White's team seized control with a 21-2 explosion over a span of four-plus minutes. That made it a 24-13 game with two minutes left in the opening quarter

Six different players provided scoring during that run with DuCharme leading the way with seven points. Junior forward Ciara Norman (Roebling, N.J./Life Center Academy) added four off the bench and both junior guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion/Tabor Academy) and Morgen connected from beyond the arc.

Bentley opened the second quarter with a 20-7 surge to go up 20, 46-26 with 2:41 left until intermission. Morgen, the Division II leader in three-point accuracy, finished the run with back-to-back long balls, connecting from each corner.

The Falcons, up 48-34 at the half, remained comfortably in front in the second half. The Penmen were limited to 20 points after intermission, on just 7-of-23 shooting, including 1-of-8 from three.

DuCharme, 8-of-12 from the field with a pair of treys in as many attempts, complemented her 19 points with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Morgen, a plus-32 in her 30 minutes of action, made five of 11 from downtown and finished with 15 points and three steals off the bench.

Bentley also received 13 points and seven rebounds from senior guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and 11 points and nine assists from Yeomans. Norman came off the bench to provide nine points and six rebounds.

Southern New Hampshire (11-15, 7-13 NE10) received 12 points apiece from six-foot graduate student Stephanie Davis (Windham, N.H.) and sophomore guard Abby Wager (Mansfield).

The Falcons outshot the Penmen 51-39 percent and outscored the visitors by 21 points from deep. Bentley made 13 of 27 and SNHU was 6-of-17.

Rebounds (40-35), assists (24-10), steals (11-3) and points off turnovers (18-0) all favored the Falcons.

Bentley will begin its bid for a fourth straight Northeast-10 tournament championship Sunday at 1:30 pm with a home game against either St. Michael's or Southern New Hampshire.
