Pickett, Piromalli lead Falcons to 4-1 win over Minnesota State

CLERMONT, Fla. – Maddie Pickett earned her second win of the season as the Bentley softball team beat Minnesota State Mankato, 4-1, Thursday. It was the second game of the day for the Falcons. Bentley lost its first game of the day against Slippery Rock, 2-1.

Pickett worked 5.1 innings in her start against Minnesota State, yielding only one run on three hits. Riley Piromalli got the save by pitching 1.2 shutout innings.
Neither team scored through the first four innings, although Bentley had a good chance in the bottom of the second inning. Katie Welch was hit by a pitch, and Becca Harris to put runners on the corners with two outs. But the threat ended there.

Bentley finally broke through in the fifth inning. Hailey Feiler led off with a single. Two batters later, Ella Bunovsky and Carly DiMento both singled to load the bases. Jordan Krause took advantage of the opportunity with an RBI single, and Maddie Baker drove in two more runs with a single of her own.

Minnesota State made it a 3-1 game in the top of the sixth inning, but the Falcons quickly got the run back. Welch led off the bottom with sixth inning by drawing a walk, and Feiler followed with a single. Harris reached base on an error that loaded the bases, and a base hit by DiMento pushed the lead to 4-1.

DiMento, Krause, and Feiler each finished the game with two hits.

Priomalli pitched a complete game, and Kim Saunders had two hits, but Slippery Rock walked off with a 2-1 win over Bentley.

The Falcons put together a two-out rally to a take a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Bella Burke reached base on a fielding error for what would have been the inning's final out. Krause promptly followed by ripping a double to right-center field, allowing Burke to score from first base.

Slippery Rock won the game by loading the bases with one out in the seventh inning, and a base hit brought two of the runners home.

Bentley's Florida trip concludes Friday, March 14. The Falcons take on Purdue University Northwest at 11:15 a.m., and then go head-to-head against Hillsdale at 2 p.m.
